HOW IT ALL BEGAN... Dr   Vincent   was   awarded   a   scholarship   to   pursue   his   undergraduate   medical   studies   locally   in   the National   University   of   Malaysia   (Universiti   Kebangsaan   Malaysia,   UKM).   Early   in   his   medical career,   he   soon   discovered   his   interest   in   the   surgical   field   where   he   gained   experience   in   General Surgery   before   moving   onto   the   field   of   Ear,   Nose   and   Throat   (Otorhinolaryngology),   Head   and Neck     Surgery.     He     later     returned     to     his     alma     mater     to     undergo     specialist     training     in Otorhinolaryngology,   Head   and   Neck   Surgery   and   performed   well   in   his   final   exams   to   graduate with   the   Master   of   Surgery   (Otorhinolaryngology,   Head   &   Neck   Surgery).   He   has   developed   his skills and knowledge in the area since. HIS CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE... In the course of his postgraduate studies, he has obtained the following qualifications: Postgraduate Diploma of Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK Membership of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS Intercollegiate UK) Postgraduate   Certificate   in Allergy,   University   of   Southampton   School   of   Medicine, UK Masters of Surgery in Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery [MS ORL-HNS (UKM)] After    his    graduation    as    an    ENT,    Head    and    Neck    surgeon,    he    was    awarded    Specialist    Accreditation    in Otorhinolaryngology,   Head   and   Neck   Surgery   by   the   Ministry   of   Health   Malaysia   and   Specialist   Registration   in   Ear, Nose   &   Throat   Surgery.   He   was   also   accredited   by   the   National   Specialist   Register   committee.   He   had   a   busy practice   in   Kuching   General   Hospital,   Sarawak   where   he   served   for   2   years.   Here   he   was   actively involved      in managing    nasal    and    sinus    diseases,    thyroid,    salivary    gland    disorders,    nasopharyngeal    and advanced head and neck cancers. He   was   later   awarded   subspecialty   training,   Fellowship   in   Rhinology   (a   subspecialty   related   to nasal   medicine   and   surgery)   by   the   Singapore   General   Hospital   (SGH).   Under   the   mentorship of   renowned   endoscopic   sinus   surgeon   Assoc.Prof   Dr.   D.S.Sethi   and   Dr.   Leong   Jern   Lin,   he honed   his   skills   in   advanced   endoscopic   sinus   surgery   (including   image-guided   surgery, endoscopic   nasal   and   sinus   tumour   excision,   pituitary   surgery,   endoscopic   anterior   skull   base and   pituitary   surgery,   endoscopic   revision   sinus   surgery),   ENT   allergy   and   immunotherapy.   While   in Singapore,   he   has   also   spent   time   with   sleep   surgery   experts   to   develop   his   surgical   skill   and   gained   experience   in the management of snoring disorders and sleep apnea. Due   to   his   interest   in   the   field   of   ENT   allergy,   he   continued   his   pursuit   of   knowledge   in   this field   by   completing   his   Postgraduate   Certificate   studies   in   the   University   of   Southampton School   of   Medicine,   UK   and   his   specialist   clinical   attachment   in   the   Southampton   General Hospital, UK. Upon   his   return,   he   served   as   the   Head   of   Department   and   ENT,   Head   and   Neck   Surgeon   in the   Department   of   Otorhinolaryngology,   Klang   General   Hospital.   As   he   also   has   a   keen interest   in   cancers   of   the   head   and   neck   region,   he   was   later   given the   privilege   to   serve   as   International   Fellow   in   Head   and   Neck Oncology    (a    subspecialty    related    to    cancer)    and    Surgery    in    Netherlands    Cancer Institute,     Amsterdam,     The     Netherlands.     Here,     he     gained     further     exposure     in management   of   head   and   neck   tumours   (including   voice   box/laryngeal   cancers),   laser surgery   in   ENT   and   reconstruction   of   complex   defects   of   the   face,   jaw,   tongue,   throat and neck following cancer surgery. He     had     also     completed     a     training     stint     in     Otology     (a subspecialty   related   to   ear   surgery)   under   Professor   Ravi   Ramalingam   in   the   high-volume centre KKR ENT Hospital, Chennai, India to further his understanding in that field. ACADEMIA... Due   to   his   keen   academic   interest,   he   has   kept   himself   updated with    the    ever-changing    medical    knowledge    through    actively publishing   in   local   and   international   peer-reviewed   journals.   He   was   also   given   the   privilege to   publish   and   also   review   articles   in   one   of   the   leading   U.S   ENT   journal.   He   was   in   the   peer review panel of 3 international ENT journals and a local medical journal. As   an   Associate   Professor   in   ENT,   Head   and   Neck   Surgery   prior   to   this,   he   was   involved   in   the teaching           of medical   undergraduates   and   mentoring   of   junior   doctors.   In   the   course   of   his   previous   employment,   he   has   also served   as   an   adjunct   clinical   teacher/lecturer   with   the   University   of   Malaysia   Sarawak   where   he   contributed   to postgraduate student training, various researches, and presented his works at international meetings. He   has   also   been   called   upon   as   part   of   the   teaching   faculty   in   the   Endoscopic   Sinus   Surgery   course   in   Singapore and   has   given   talks   to   other   specialists,   the   General   Practitioners,   junior   doctors   and   pharmacists. As   a   firm   believer in   continuous   medical   education,   he   also   travels   to   international   conferences   to   learn   from   world   renowned   ENT surgeons   in   their   fields   of   expertise.   He   was   recently   involved   as   a   committee   member   for   the   drafting   of   the   GP Consensus   Guideline   for   Obstructive   Sleep   Apnea   (OSA) ,   a   national   guideline   for   primary   care   physicians   on   OSA. He    was    also    an    executive    committee    member    of    the    Malaysian    Society    of Otorhinolaryngologist, Head and Neck Surgeons (MSOHNS). He   has   also   been   invited   on   as   guest   panel   specialist   on   live   talk   shows   on   ENT health issues on national TV. ( for details, click here ) He is also an active member of the following academic societies: British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI) European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) Malaysian      Society      of      Otorhinolaryngology-Head      and      Neck      Surgeons (MSOHNS) Academy of Medicine of Malaysia Malaysian Oncological Society (MOS) Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology (MSAI) He is currently in the process of writing a ENT handbook for the local medical community. Due   to   his   exposure   locally   and   abroad,   a   good   networking   of   friends,   colleagues   and experts   in   the   ENT   fraternity   has   been   established.   He   remains   indebted   to   his   teachers, colleagues    and    patients    who    had    taught    him    much.    He    stills    travels    regularly    to international   courses   to   update   his   knowledge   and   surgical   skills   in   the   fast-changing medical scene. CHARITY... He   is   also   the   Clinical   Director   for   Special   Olympics    Healthy   Hearing Athletes   Program,   a charity   organisation   under   the   auspices   of   International   Olympic   Committee   (IOC),   with   the   purpose   of   providing healthy   hearing   opportunities   to   the   special   group   of   children.   He   is   working   towards   awareness   of   this   charitable movement in Malaysia. SERVICES… Born   and   bred   as   a   true   Malaysian   boy,   he   is   able   to   converse   in   English,   Bahasa   Malaysia, Mandarin,   Hokkien   and   Cantonese   dialects   (and   also   a   few   words   of   Tamil   !).   He   also   enjoys interaction with children. Being   an   certified Advanced   Open   Water   PADI   SCUBA   diver,   he   also   has   a   deep   ( no   ‘pun’   intended ! )    passion    for    SCUBA    diving,    for    which    he    has    dedicated    a    page    here    for    further    medical understanding. He is most welcome to suggestion about almost anything about this passion of his ! Dr   Vincent   provides   outpatient,   as   well   as   inpatient   surgical   care   for   general   ear,   nose,   throat   and   neck   conditions, with a special interest in treating nose, allergy, sinus problems and head and neck tumours.
